Police arrived on the scene shortly after a man phoned at 1 o’clock in the morning last Sunday to say he and several others were being pursued down the main street, local newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad reports.
With his chainsaw running, the 25-year-old uttered death threats as he barreled along Storgatan in pursuit of his prey. He also took the opportunity to slash branches off trees in central Klippan, a town of 8,000 people located 90 kilometres north of Malmö.
The chainsaw wielder’s would-be victims managed to keep at a safe distance from their aggressor throughout.
Local police dispatched two units and were eventually able to arrest the man and confiscate his chainsaw at an apartment on Storgatan.
“We questioned him and he gave an explanation for his behaviour that I don’t wish to elaborate on. He was very drunk,” said police spokesman Göran Tolf.
