The girl disappeared just after midnight on New Year’s from Gustav Adolfs square in central Malmö while in the care of her aunts. They called the police after unsuccessfully searching for her in the crowd for 30 minutes.
Police said that on Saturday they received “information that confirms that the missing girl is in good health and with all likelihood in Iraq.”
Maryam’s mother has spoken with individuals in Iraq and has even been allowed to speak with her daughter.
The girl and both of her parents are foreign citizens. The girl has been living with her mother in Sweden while the father is in Iraq.
The mother told Norwegian newspaper VG that the girl’s father called her and told her what had happened. He said that the girl was okay, but she would be living with him.
Police are continuing to investigate how the girl was abducted and by whom.
