The damages of €33,906 were awarded to the woman by a court in Seville after her doctor forgot to take out a dressing weighing 280 grams.
The events took place in March 2009, reported Europa Press news agency on Friday.
Doctors decided to undertake the caesarean section when the 35-year-old woman suffered labour pains.
At the end of the operation, however, the dressing was left in. It was only discovered later when the patient visited a local medical clinic.
The dressing was finally removed during another surgical procedure on November 10th 2009.
A subsequent case saw the woman affected receiving advice from the patients lobby group 'El Defensor de Paciente'. The group claimed doctors had been negligent in failing to remove the dressing after the operation.
The judge overseeing the case in Seville said "there was no doubt" about what had occurred but also stressed "there was no evidence the woman affected had suffered any inconvenience except when it came to the removal of the dressing".
The judge did agree, however, that there had been "malpractice by not acting with necessary diligence" during the operation.
