"This winter has started in the worst possible way," the deer's owner, Ole-Henrik Kappfjell, told NRK on Tuesday afternoon. "It seems that more animals are injured."
The animals were crossing the Nordland line in the rural Vefsn municipality when the train hit.
The herders have been lobbying for wildlife fences alongside the track after losing some 4,000 elk and reindeer to train collisions over the past decade.
