Top ten über-long German words

Take a deep breath, now say... Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz. This week's Local List looks at ten tongue-twisting German words.

On June 3rd, the record-breaking 63-letter word “law for the delegation of monitoring beef labelling” was stricken from Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania's regional law books – and with that, Germany lost its longest word.

Still grieving the loss of this epic term from the Guiness Book of Records, The Local wanted to prove there are still plenty of ridiculously over-sized compound nouns to take its place.
