Spanish celebrity chef José Andrés has called on Donald Trump to bring an end to their bitter quarrel and make a donation to charity instead of continuing their legal fight in the courts.

The Spanish chef who has found huge success in America offered Trump the chance for them both to be winners by donating the money they would spend on legal fees to a charity for war veterans.

Andrés is being sued by the President-elect after he pulled out of a restaurant venture planned for the Trump International Hotel in Washington DC.

The chef and TV personality cancelled the venture in July 2015 in protest at “racist” comments by the then presidential candidate after he branded Mexicans in the US as “criminals and rapists”.

“Donald Trump's recent statements disparaging immigrants make it impossible for my company and I to move forward with opening a successful Spanish restaurant in Trump International's upcoming hotel in Washington, D.C.,” Andrés said in a statement at the time.

Trump responded to the snub by filing a €10 million lawsuit against the Andres’ ThinkFoodGroup for breach of contract.

If Trump fails to take up Andrés’ offer and drop the suit, he will face questions during a deposition scheduled to take place in early January, just weeks before he will be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States.

There was no immediate response from either Trump or his office on the matter.
