Foreign workers struggle to find the right job

The Swiss Federal Statistics Office reported that one in seven employees in Switzerland was doing a job below their educational level in 2014.

Whereas the figure was 11.5 per cent among the general population, some 18 percent of workers with a migration background were affected, according to the figures reported by the Swiss news agency SDA.

Second-generation immigrants and their children were less likely to be overqualified for their line of work than people born abroad.

But even so almost 16 per cent of second-generation immigrants fell into this category last year, compared with 11 per cent in 2013.

Migrant workers are also less likely to be offered managerial positions, the report found.

Just under 33 per cent of people with a migration background were working as managers last year, compared with a level of 35.5 per cent among the Swiss-born population.
