Inter Milan snares Bayern Munich’s Shaqiri

Inter have snared their second biggest name of the winter transfer market after agreeing terms with Bayern Munich for forward Xherdan Shaqiri, the club said in a brief statement on Thursday.

Inter completed the loan signing of Lukas Podolski from Arsenal last week and the Serie A giants are now set to welcome Shaqiri to the San Siro on a similar deal after club officials flew to Munich to conclude talks with Bayern.

A statement by Inter Channel, the official television network of Inter, said: "Total agreement between Inter and Bayern for the transfer of Shaqiri. Only the signature is missing."

Media reports earlier said Shaqiri did not train with the rest of Bayern's squad on Thursday, a sign that he could be preparing to depart for Milan where he is expected in the coming days, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

It said Shaqiri, who has not played regularly at Bayern in the face of competition from Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, would sign a six-month loan deal that has cost Inter €2 million but could join Inter permanently on a four-year deal worth another €14 million at the end of the season.

After a three-year absence from the Champions League, 2010 champions Inter are desperate to qualify for next season's competition.

Roberto Mancini's side currently lie 11th in Serie A, 18 points behind leaders and champions Juventus and eight behind Lazio in the third and last Champions League qualifying spot.

Spain's La Liga on Monday said it was reviewing a video of a child making racist insults towards Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend.

“We’re in the process of studying and analysing the facts from a legal standpoint to see what we can and should do,” La Liga sources said.

In a video published by a journalist for ESPN Brasil, and picked up by Spanish media, a boy sitting in a woman’s lap can be heard calling Vinicius a “monkey”.

The Brazilian scored twice for Madrid as his team recovered from two goals down at Mestalla on Saturday.

Vinicius raised his fist in a “Black Power” salute after the first of his two goals at a ground where he was racially abused last season. Valencia subsequently banned three people from the stadium for life.

The 23-year-old has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions, and he was jeered repeatedly by home supporters on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was sent off after the final whistle against Valencia for protesting after the referee blew the final whistle right before the England midfielder headed home what he thought was the winning goal.
