Norway to spend millions on US-style Halloween

Norwegians will this year spend around 260 million kroner ($40 million) on Halloween celebrations, according to one of Norway's top business organizations.

Virke, the Enterprise Federation of Norway, represents over 18, 300 businesses in Norway.

The organization's director, Bror W. Stende, said to NTB: “Trade has simply created a new season for itself. It has been served to us on a silver platter from American movies, and both children and stores alike have greedily embraced it.”

The average Norwegian is set to spend 50 kroner per adult, or just under 300 kroner per child aged between 4 and 15 years old. And it is families with children who are the most eager to celebrate Halloween. The money is spent on costumes, candy and decorations.

Stende added: “Some families spend more, while others spend less or nothing at all. But it is a fact. It has become far more difficult – especially for families with children – not to relate to Halloween.”
