Mango under fire over ‘Nazi blouse’

The shirt design containing black lines which resemble lightening bolts has been criticized for its use of a pattern resembling the 'Siegrune' or victory rune insignia sported by SS officers on their uniform during the Second World War.

Twitter users in Germany were quick to express their outrage online.

Want some Nazi chic in the 21st century? Then you might like this SS blouse from Mango. 

Mango was quick to apologize for the fashion faux-pas.

"The RAYO blouse belongs to a collection inspired by mini-motifs. In the range there are two other models which feature hearts and stars," Mango in Spain told The Local via email.

"This design shows one of the designs. Mango regrets the unfortunate association that has come about because of this design."

Not everyone was so convinced by the likeness of the blouse with Nazi uniforms though:

Mango prints an SS symbol on a blouse. Or is it just an ACDC lightening strike?  

This is not the first time a Spanish fashion company has come under fire for an unfortunate choice of design in recent months.

In August, Zara apologized for selling a striped shirt for children which appears to resemble the clothes worn by prisoners in Nazi concentration camps.
