Police arrested 45 people following the FC Zurich-Basel cup final after groups of football supporters caused substantial damage in the capital, including broken windows and a damaged escalator, reported news agency ATS.
“Once more, the police are bearing the brunt. A number of them were injured,” said cantonal police chief Hans-Jürg Käser.
The violence comes despite an anti-hooligan agreement which gave more power to the authorities and allowed them to open discussion with supporter groups.
The city allowed the march to take place to give supporters “a second chance”, said Käser.
Now, the police chief has had enough, and the future of the event in Bern is in doubt.
“It’s up to the city of Bern to make the decision,” said Käser.
FC Zurich won the cup final 2-0.
