In the piece the influential US daily targeted Spain's ailing economy and ever-increasing hardship.
“In a family in which no member had a full-time job, Alejandro, his parents and his older brother could almost feel themselves slipping a bit more every day," wrote the journalist.
"Their story is a glimpse into the new normal of lives torn apart by an economic storm.”
The Washington broadsheet, recently acquired by billionaire businessman Jeff Bezos, ran the account of a crisis-hit Córdoba family under the title “A family upended”.
The writer also conjures up the US view on crisis-hit Spain :
“Seen from across the Atlantic, this is a crisis crippling a playground of American tourists and igniting worries of social instability in a part of the world counted on for troops alongside U.S. boots.”
The Washington Post article didn't address some of the economic positive news highlighted in a recent article in the Wall Street Journal.
Instead the Washington daily highlighted the fact that: “In Spain, a once-booming corner of Europe, unemployment has shot from 8.6 percent in 2007 to 26.3 percent today.”
