Mario Balotelli hits back at slur by sprinter Bolt

Footballer Mario Balotelli has rarely been out of the news since his three goals led Italy to victory against Germany in Euro 2012.

The eccentric striker, who played for Manchester City until earlier this year, became known in the UK as much for his goals as for his antics off the pitch, which included setting his house alight with fireworks and popping into a local school and asking if he could use the toilet.

At home in Italy, however, he’s had to endure a lot of criticism and racist taunts.

But he always strikes back. In response to a comment today from Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt saying he didn’t like Balotelli much, the footballer took to Twitter and told him not to judge people he doesn’t know.

Bolt, who picked up three gold medals at last year’s London Olympics, was speaking during an interview with TG1 ahead of the Diamond League event in Rome tonight.

He said: "Balotelli is a great football player, although perhaps a little too aggressive for my tastes. He never misses a penalty. I've met him a couple of times and to be honest I don't like him very much."

Balotelli's retort has since been deleted. He now plays for AC Milan after two seasons in Manchester.

VIDEO: Spain’s La Liga reviews video of boy racially abusing Vinicius

Spain's La Liga on Monday said it was reviewing a video of a child making racist insults towards Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during the 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend.

“We’re in the process of studying and analysing the facts from a legal standpoint to see what we can and should do,” La Liga sources said.

In a video published by a journalist for ESPN Brasil, and picked up by Spanish media, a boy sitting in a woman’s lap can be heard calling Vinicius a “monkey”.

The Brazilian scored twice for Madrid as his team recovered from two goals down at Mestalla on Saturday.

Vinicius raised his fist in a “Black Power” salute after the first of his two goals at a ground where he was racially abused last season. Valencia subsequently banned three people from the stadium for life.

The 23-year-old has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions, and he was jeered repeatedly by home supporters on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was sent off after the final whistle against Valencia for protesting after the referee blew the final whistle right before the England midfielder headed home what he thought was the winning goal.
