The Oscars have always had a thing for France.  

From a silent actor to a long-nosed poet, a suave ladies’ man or a family of heart-warming penguins, the French have had some proud moments since the Oscars were first held, back in 1929.

Now, with Emmanuelle Riva tipped to make history by taking home the  Best Actress gong on her 86th birthday, The Local has decided to delve into the archives and find ten of the greatest moments in French Oscar history.
