The 1.55pm train from Paris to Le Croisic, western France, was forced to stop two kilometres from Angers, western France, when a cable was spotted wrapped around an overhead electric wire. At the end of the cable there was a hair dryer.
This act of vandalism has been condemned by the SNCF, France’s national train company.
A spokeperson for the SNCF said: “At the end of the television cable, the call-out team found a hairdryer. The hairdryer was heavy enough to wrap the cable around the overhead electric wire.
“It was inconvenient for our customers and had serious consequences for the regularity of the train traffic.”
After being held up for an hour, the train went to Saint Nazaire to drop off its passengers – 30 kilometres from its original destination.
Passengers eventually took another train to Le Croisic.
