The government’s main Category A measure of unemployment showed the total up 29,900 to 2.85 million.
When part-time job seekers are added to the total there are 4.25 million people looking for work in France, a new record.
There were 5.2 percent more people out of work in November 2011 than a year earlier.
Employment minister Xavier Bertrand blamed the jump on the “economic slowdown”.
The minister is expected in the city of Reims on Tuesday, in the country’s Champagne area, where he will visit one of the Pôle Emploi government’s network of job centres.
He will be joined by the recently-appointed head of the service, Jean Bassères.
A special jobs summit will be held by president Nicolas Sarkozy on January 18th.
