Switzerland has already destroyed 5.3 million vaccines last year, while 1.8 million were either sold or donated to the World Health Organization and Iran, said a report by the Corriere del Ticino newspaper.
The total value of the vaccines is estimated at 56.4 million francs, while disposal will cost 200,000 francs, Federal Health Office spokesman Jean-Louis Zürcher was quoted as saying by the paper.
The Swiss government bought 13 million doses of vaccines at the end of 2009 to tackle an expected swine flu pandemic. The country has used a total of 2.5 million doses.
