A number of drunk drivers and inebriated revellers were taken into police custody across the country. There were also reports of a number of assaults at parties and camping sites.
Police on the island of Öland “as usual made lots of different kinds of interventions”, while in In Halland police had “quite a messy and hectic day.”
“I could have done with ten more police units,” said Peter Persson at Örebro police station. A serious road traffic accident in the area left two women seriously injured on Friday night.
In Uppsala, Sergeant Kenneth Sundin said it would be “an understatement to say that we had a lot to do.”
In Växjö a man died in a cycling accident. Another man died after his boat capsized off the coast of Karlskrona.
But many parts of the country experienced a relatively calm Midsummer Eve. Police in Västernorrland did not have to make a single arrest. In Jönköping too the holiday was largely uneventful, although three people received facial burns after an accident with a barbecue at the High Chaparall camping site.
On the E4 motorway outside Sundsvall, police stopped two men on a motorized lawnmower wearing nothing but minuscule shorts. The driver of the vehicle is suspected of aggravated drunk driving.
