Two boys killed by freight train

Two 13-year-old boys were killed by a freight train on Tuesday evening, according to police in the German state of Brandenburg.

“We think it was an accident,” a police spokesperson in Königs Wusterhausen said on Wednesday, adding that there were no clues to indicate suicide or foul play.

The two boys, who lived in a children’s home in the small town of Gross Köris, probably tried to take a short cut across train tracks on their way to go shopping, police said.

Both boys had permission from their caregiver to leave the children’s home around 6:30 pm. They were killed on the train tracks around 7 pm. The train conductor on the train travelling from Berlin to Cottbus suffered from shock after the accident.
