The 39-year-old victim of the stabbing was taken to Sunderbyn Hospital where his condition is reported to be stable.
The couple, who live in a small town outside Luleå in northern Sweden, had planned a romantic dinner at home in a bid to get their shaky relationship back on track.
The 39-year-old man cooked dinner and showered the woman with presents.
“But she didn’t like them and ripped them up with a scissors. She was also critical of the food, and when he stood up to throw the food away she approached him from behind and stabbed him in the back with a knife,” police spokesman Yngve Hansson told news agency TT.
The police were called to the scene shorty before five o’clock on Saturday afternoon. The 39-year-old was bleeding profusely as he was taken to hospital.
Police have not yet been able to question the woman as she was heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of her arrest. She is being held on suspicion of aggravated assault.
