15-year-old remanded into custody for murder

A 15-year-old boy suspected of shooting to death a 19-year-old woman in Sjöbo in southern Sweden was remanded into custody on Friday afternoon. The woman was murdered at the beginning of August.

The Ystad district court found probable cause against the boy for murder.

“This time we won’t appeal. My client remains in custody in Malmö with restrictions,” defense attorney Jörgen Malmunger told TT.

The boy, who is related to the murdered woman, was remanded into custody for the first time by Ystad district court 14 days ago. The remand order was appealed, but the appeals court found sufficient evidence again the boy to keep him him custody.

The 15-year-old denies involvement and his lawyer has previously stated that there are reasonable explanations for the evidence against him.

Friday’s remand order is valid for two weeks, but the prosecutor has advised that it might take a month to conclude the preliminary investigation. Next week, Ystad district court is expected to receive the results of the boy’s psychological evaluation.
