The man, commissioner at Solna’s police station just outside Stockholm, is now suspected of sexual molestation, wrote the Swedish police in a statement.
The hidden camera was discovered in the changing room on Tuesday by a female police officer. When confronted, the commissioner confessed immediately.
“I was the one who placed the camera there,” he said, according to newspaper Aftonbladet.
According to Aftonbladet, the man’s home, as well as the police station, have now been searched.
Several films, computers, a camera and a cell phone have been confiscated and the case has now been turned over to prosecutor Håkan Rosvall.
“The crime sexual molestation can lead to either fines or prison for up to two years, so depending on the circumstances, it may of course be fairly serious,” Rosvall told the newspaper.
He added he didn’t know how long the secret camera had been mounted in the women’s changing room before being discovered, but that it’s one of the matters now being looked into.
According to the Swedish police, employees at Solna’s police station have all been informed about the incident, and have been offered professional support.
