Murray ended Britain’s 77-year wait for a Brit to become men’s singles champion at the All England club by defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
“I think Andy Murray can win six, seven, eight, nine, ten majors. The only man that can stop him is Novak Djokovic,” said the Swede.
Wilander, who won seven Grand Slam titles in the eighties, is now an expert commentator for Eurosport. He added that the Murray v Djokovic rivalry is likely to rule the tennis scene for the foreseeable future.
“These two are going to decide who gets ahead in the history books. I hope they both decide this is a rivalry that’s just going to grow and become great on all the different surfaces, in all four majors.”
Olympic champion Murray, 26, and world number one Djokovic, who are born just five days apart, have contested three of the last four Grand Slam finals.
Murray’s victory at Wimbledon was his second Grand Slam win following his triumph at the US Open. Djokovic has won six majors but both are well behind Roger Federer in the all-time list as he has won 17.
Swedish legend Bjorn Borg is joint fifth in the major rankings with eleven titles with Wilander equal 13th with seven.
