“We’re taking all our own food and our own chef,” he told an employee of Nordic Semiconductor, his new sponsors, in Oslo on Monday.
Neither the 22-year-old grandmaster nor his full-time manager Espen Agdestein were happy at the decision to hold the World Championships in Chennai, the home town of the present title-holder Viswanathan Anand.
Carlsen, from Tønsberg, is currently ranked the number one chess player in the world, with a peak rating of 2872, the highest in history.
The world championships, which will pit Carlsen against Anand in a marathon 20-day match, take place between the sixth and the and 26th of November.
