Police said the two men, a 20-year-old Algerian and a 21-year-old Moroccan, were walking past the house where the child lives on Sunday afternoon, when they happened to look up and saw the little girl clinging onto the edge of a balcony.
A fall from such a height would likely cause serious injury, or even death. They quickly took off their jackets and tied them together to form a cloth with which to catch her – and moments later they were able to break her fall.
Police officer Hubert Thonhauser from the Pradl district of Innsbruck said that thanks to the two men the little girl “only had a bite wound on her lip” and that they had saved her from possible death. She was taken to hospital in Innsbruck for a medical examination. Police say they are not sure how she was able to get out onto the terrace, but that she had been left at home alone.
