Oscar Manuel Lopez Isach, a market worker from Moncofa near Castellon in eastern Spain was joining in festivities at the annual celebrations in the nearby town of La Vilavella.
He was fatally injured after slipping during the ‘bous al carrer’ when bulls are released to chase revellers through the streets.
His carotid artery was damaged by the bulls horn as he sought safety behind barriers erected in the streets to protect spectators.
Carmen Navarro, the mayor of La Vilavella insisted that the death was “a terrible accident and not the result of any failure in safety measures”.
The death was at least the sixth fatal goring to take place at fiestas this summer, including a woman who stepped from her doorway into the path of a bull, and matador Victor Barrio who died in the ring on July 9th.
Last year was particularly bloody when at least 14 people were gored to death at fiestas.
Earlier this month footage showing a young calf being tortured to death during a fiesta sparked outrage and renewed calls for bullfighting to be curbed.
An anti-bullfighting demonstration has been called in Madrid for September 10th.
