Once universally known as the happiest people on Earth, Danes have seen that title go to others in recent international studies. Whether it was being bypassed by Finns as the happiest people in Europe in a recent WIN/Gallup poll or Denmark falling behind Panama and Costa Rica as the country with the highest levels of well-being in the world, there are signs that Danes aren't as happy as they once were.
But the reports of the death of Danish happiness may be greatly exaggerated. Even in that aforementioned WIN/Gallup poll, more than three quarters of Danes said that they feel either ‘very happy’ or ‘happy’ about their lives and more Danes were optimistic about the coming year than they were about the previous.
