Sweden braces for ten centimetres of snow

If you haven't already rummaged around the attic for your winter clothes, now is a good time. 

 

Sweden's weather agency SMHI announced that large parts of the country were set to be hit by snowfall on Thursday – with over ten centimetres expected in some places.

 

The snow is predicted to fall everywhere north of Gävle, on the east coast.

 

Northern Sweden has already had a taste of winter this morning, with strong winds and buckets of snow.

 

SMHI issued a class one warning  – the lowest on its three-scale warning system – for the top two thirds of the country, urging Swedes to be careful on the roads.

 

"Motorists should be extremely careful about the ice on the roads," Sofia Södererg, meteorologist at SMHI, told the TT news agency.  

 

Residents of southern Sweden can rest assured, however, that winter might still be a while yet.

 

Those on the Blekinge coast can expect mild weather, with one meteoroligist in the area reporting that autumn still hasn't reached the area.
