The Royal House has dismissed as “nonsense” a report in the Australian press that Queen Margrethe will soon abdicate the throne and make way for Crown Prince Frederik.
The Australian magazine Woman’s Day reported on Monday that Australia’s own Crown Princess Mary would be queen in “just weeks”.
“It’s official! Australia's favourite royal export Princess Mary is expected to be crowned Queen of Denmark. And it could happen any day now,” the magazine gushed.
Woman’s Day said that the move would happen soon due to Queen Margrethe’s “ill health”.
The Royal House, however, firmly denied the report.
“There is nothing to that story. It is nonsense and Her Majesty the Queen is doing splendidly,” a Royal House spokesperson told Metroxpress.
According to Woman’s Day’s version of events, Queen Margrethe has been coaching Mary into a transition into the role of queen. The magazine also said Mary “is thrilled about taking on the new title”. Thrilled to be the queen of Denmark? That’s probably one element of the story that all sides would agree is true.
