Good Friday will be rainy for those in the southern parts of the country, especially around the foothills of the Alps in the afternoon. Central and eastern regions will see scattered cloud cover and even the occasional flash of lightning.

Temperatures will reach highs between 9C and 15C, but remain cooler along the coast and in hilly areas. Wind will whip up and down the coastline, but feel much calmer inland.

Friday night will remain rainy in the south around the Alps, with a slight chance of snow. The rest of the country will also remain the same as the day prior, with scattered clouds eventually clearing as very early morning arrives. Lows will be between 7C and 2C.

On Saturday thick clouds are set to gather over the south west, bringing a threat of rain and storms. Everywhere else will see the odd cloud and intermittent sunny stretches. The northern states will, state forecaster the DWD said, see the most sunshine.

Highs should be a little warmer than Friday, with temperatures of up to 20C in the north and between 14C and 19C in less sunny states.

Rain will fall on Saturday night in the south west, but the rest of Germany should stay dry.

As Easter Sunday arrives, so will longer periods of sun in the north, east and south east. In the west it will become gradually more cloudy and thundery. It will be warmest in the east with highs of 22C. The west is more likely to see highs of 15C.

Sunday night will be rainy again in the south west with a chance of storm. Otherwise, Germany will see a generally clear night with lows of between 9C and 2C to lead into Easter Monday.

‘Turbo spring’: Germany to see temperatures above 25C

Germany is set for a blast of warm weather in the coming week as the colder spell eases off.

'Turbo spring': Germany to see temperatures above 25C

“The late winter weather of the past few days with frost and snow is a thing of the past for the time being, and spring will kick into turbo gear over the next few days,” said meteorologist Adrian Leyser from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Friday.

Temperatures are expected to rise sharply over the weekend with plenty of sunshine, forecasters said. In Germany anything above 25C is classed as a summer day. “The summer mark of 25C will be cracked regionally as early as Sunday,” said Leyser.

It comes as snow and hail hit Germany last week, and temperatures fell below freezing in some places.

But showers and thunderstorms are still possible in the west and north of Germany. Maximum temperatures there are expected to reach around 20C.

According to the DWD, spring will get a little damper on Monday, with a few rain spells.  “However, the next low pressure system over Western Europe is preparing to turn on the warm air jet again from Tuesday,” said the meteorologist.

On Wednesday – which is a public holiday across Germany for International Workers’ Day – temperatures could soar nearer 30C.

“In the south and east, we are even approaching the 30C mark,” said Leyser. However, the weather will remain “susceptible to disruption”, said Leyser, especially in the west where there is a risk of isolated and sometimes severe thunderstorms.
