Low pressure has brought a few chilly, drizzly days to large stretches of the country, but a higher pressure system will move in by Saturday, according to state weather service DWD on Friday.

The latter half of Friday afternoon will be rainy for the north and eastern states, while in the west and south it will be clear and dry until sunset.

As night arrives the north will remain clouded over, but dry. The south will be patchy with a chance of fog and in the Alps there will likely be a light frost. Lows of 6C to 0C should be expected, making it chilly.

Saturday will see higher pressure pushing temperatures up to highs of 15C on the north coast and 21C inland. The whole country should see some sun with a very gentle breeze. But in the very far west it could still be a bit cloudy.

Clear skies will be the theme of Saturday night, which means that it will remain relatively cool with lows of 0C in rural areas and 7C in towns and cities. It could also be foggy, said the DWD.

Any fog from the night before will clear by Sunday morning, as really warm air will settle across Germany bringing highs of 23C in the west.

Everywhere else will be slightly cooler, but not by much. There will be a light, easterly breeze.

Sunday night will not only be an hour shorter due to the clocks going forward, but also continue to be clear and dry.

Only the very north east will see a few clouds gathering. Lows will be the same as the night before, ranging from 0C to 7C. And a frost will still be a possibility in the Alps.

Monday will remain sunny and dry, signalling the beginning of April. Highs of 22C are expected and the wind will remain at a minimum.

‘Turbo spring’: Germany to see temperatures above 25C

Germany is set for a blast of warm weather in the coming week as the colder spell eases off.

'Turbo spring': Germany to see temperatures above 25C

“The late winter weather of the past few days with frost and snow is a thing of the past for the time being, and spring will kick into turbo gear over the next few days,” said meteorologist Adrian Leyser from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Friday.

Temperatures are expected to rise sharply over the weekend with plenty of sunshine, forecasters said. In Germany anything above 25C is classed as a summer day. “The summer mark of 25C will be cracked regionally as early as Sunday,” said Leyser.

It comes as snow and hail hit Germany last week, and temperatures fell below freezing in some places.

But showers and thunderstorms are still possible in the west and north of Germany. Maximum temperatures there are expected to reach around 20C.

According to the DWD, spring will get a little damper on Monday, with a few rain spells.  “However, the next low pressure system over Western Europe is preparing to turn on the warm air jet again from Tuesday,” said the meteorologist.

On Wednesday – which is a public holiday across Germany for International Workers’ Day – temperatures could soar nearer 30C.

“In the south and east, we are even approaching the 30C mark,” said Leyser. However, the weather will remain “susceptible to disruption”, said Leyser, especially in the west where there is a risk of isolated and sometimes severe thunderstorms.
