Gibraltar may have been labelled the "sixth crappest town in Britain" in a controversial poll in October, but its people appear to be held in much higher regard by the British population than The Rock itself.
This year's lingering diplomatic row between Spain, Gibraltar and the UK has no doubt shaped readers’ opinions over why residents of the British Overseas Territory are one of the worthy victors of the poll.
Their role in withstanding "300 years of name-calling and nit-picking", as another MSN article put it, has earned them a spot among global newsmakers of the calibre of whistle-blower Edward Snowden, teenage education campaigner Malala Yousafzai and Greenpeace activists 'The Arctic 30'.
"The entire population of Gibraltar" are in second position at the moment with 23 percent of the votes, beaten only by "the passers-by when Lee Rigby was murdered in Woolwich".
Voting finishes at the end of the month.
In July, tensions between Spain and its diminutive neighbour mounted after Gibraltar created an artificial reef which the Spanish government said would destroy fishing in the area.
Britain then accused Spain of imposing stringent border checks in retaliation.
