"Central Station is a natural location for the first establishment of a brand in Stockholm," Martin Lindgren, head of sales at railway station operator Jernhusen, said in a statement.
"You come into contact with many people since we have around 250,000 guests at the station every day."
Starbucks has more than 16,000 coffee shops in over 50 countries around the world, but expansion in Scandinavia has been drowsy at best.
The US coffee chain has a small presence in Sweden, a country served by a number of local chains such as Espresso House, Coffeehouse by George, and Waynes Coffee.
The first Starbucks in Sweden opened in 2010 in the Arlanda international airport north of the capital city, but since the shop lies in terminal five past security, Starbucks fanatics have still had to travel to get their coffee fix.
Last year Starbucks opened shops in Gothenburg and Malmö stations, but left Stockholm in the cold.
"Starbucks is incredibly popular in Sweden," Lars Edengréen, head of restaurant and travel company Scandinavian Service Partner (SSP) said in a statement.
"Starbucks is a brand that's known around the world, and we're very proud to have it in SSPs brand portfolio."
SSP has already helped Starbucks gain a foothold in the UK, France, Germany and Spain, and is a dominant operator of cafés and restaurants in Sweden’s largest airports
The company is also responsible for Burger King restaurants in Sweden, as well as for the O’Leary’s chain of sports bars.
