Bardot, a former actress and model turned fierce animal right's campaigner, created her Twitter account on Monday under the handle @B_Bardot_Perso.
She quickly gathered hundreds of followers once word had gone out that she had finally joined the Twittersphere.
Bardot’s animal right’s charity, which carries her name, confirmed to AFP that the account was genuine.
Her "official" Twitter account homepage carries a recent picture of the 1960s sex symbol pasted onto a background showing the sunset, at St Tropez in France, where she owns a home.
So what subject did Bardot choose to tweet about in her first dabble with social media? Well, it wasn’t the ongoing controversy about hunting wolves in France or her longstanding battle to ban bull fighting in the south west of the country.
She instead chose to lambast French daily Le Figaro for an article it had published about the sale of a Paris apartment, owned by billionaire Gunter Sachs, whom Bardot had married in 1966.
“Sick of people using my name to sell absolutely anything. I never set a foot inside this apartment,” an angry Bardot fired off.

Bardot's message was rapidly retweeted and "favourited" as word quickly spread that the famously outspoken woman, who has been convicted five times of inciting racial hatred, was on Twitter and already had a bee in her bonnet.
"Just in case you missed it. @B_Bardot_Perso has just sent her first tweet and she's already angry," tweeted Stella Maylis.
Au cas où vous l'auriez manqué @B_BARDOT_PERSO vient de faire son 1er tweet, et elle est déjà vénère!

Bardot is rarely out of the news in France, normally for speaking out against animal cruelty. But earlier this year she made the headlines after stumping up a €600 reward for the person who helped track down her missing cat Rontonton.
Never shy of speaking out about anything from animal welfare to Islam, we can expect to hear more from Bardot over the coming weeks and months.
