The gentle temperatures and damp air of Thursday will give way to a cooler night with lows of 2C in the north, where a slight frost could be seen in rural areas. In the very centre of the country there could be the occasional thunder storm. The south will be warmer overnight at around 11C.

Friday will start cloudy and wet but warm with temperatures in the low twenties in the south and centre. Some areas may even see gale-force winds and the odd bolt of lightning. The north, by comparison, should be dry but chillier with highs of between 15C and 19C.

The north will get the damp and stormy weather as Friday night progresses, with smatterings of thunder possible over the entire country. Only in the outermost parts of the north east will it be dry. Night-time lows should be between 11C and 2C.

Volatile weather will continue in the south through Saturday while skies in the north should clear. Highs of 13C are expected along the coast while in the Rhine valley it should be 21C – but again with a chance of storms.

By Saturday night the rain should have abated, with clear skies from the north to the south. But these will spell out cooler temperatures with lows of between 7C and 4C.

For the south, the dry weather will only be short-lived with clouds set to return on Sunday. The north should escape the worst though and should look forward to a fairly mild but dry day with highs of 12C. As usual, the Rhine valley will be the warmest area with highs of 19C. It could be relatively windy everywhere, particularly in coastal areas.

Like Saturday night, Sunday night will too be dry and clear with similar temperatures of between 9C and 3C. People should, the DWD said, be able to get a good view of the stars.
