“Passengers to and from Bavaria now have a real choice over the high fares, unjustified fuel surcharges and poor punctuality services provided by Lufthansa at Munich Airport,” Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said in a statement on Wednesday.
The airline will service routes to Sardinia, Alicante, Barcelona, Dublin, London and Pisa from the Memmingen airport, some 100 kilometres from Munich.
Ryanair expects that the new hub will carry some 500,000 passengers in the next year, bringing 500 new jobs to the local Bavarian economy, O’Leary said.
