The low number is in part a reflection of the higher number of homeowners who did not spend time away on holiday, according to the National Police.
A total of 2,449 break-ins were reported to police between July 5th and August 22nd. That is a record-low figure and a drop of 27 percent in comparison with the same period in 2019.
A lack of opportunities for burglars, with fewer people travelling abroad this year during the coronavirus, has been pointed to as a primary factor in the change.
“2020 is completely unique because of Covid-19 and the drop in break-ins can actually be seen for the entire year,” Henrik Sønderby, who leads the National Investigation Centre (Nationalt Efterforskningscenter), said in a National Police statement.
Coronavirus is not the only reason, however, with the falling number of burglaries continuing a downward trend also seen in previous years, Sønderby added.
