Could Denmark see the first signs of spring this week?

After weeks of rain and wind, weather reminiscent of a warmer season could soon be welcomed to Denmark.

Warmer temperatures and sunshine are particularly likely towards the end of the current week, according to DMI meteorologist Klaus Larsen.

“There is more sun coming than we have been used to, and less rain and wind,” Larsen said.

“All things being equal, it will feel nicer, and you will be able to enjoy the sun a little more without a gust of wind blowing right into your face,” Larsen said.

Funen and Jutland were among Danish regions to see sunshine earlier on Monday.

But some showers later this week – particularly on Tuesday and Thursday night – could result in hazardous wet roads, Larsen noted.

“Many places in the country are at risk of slippery roads,” the meteorologist said.

On Monday evening, clouds and showers will move across Denmark from the southwest and spread to the rest of the country.

Tuesday will also begins with rain, but this is forecast to clear up during the day.

Temperatures of between 6-8°C may feel warmer given the lighter winds.

“Wind conditions are becoming more normal in relation to the recent windy weather we have had,” Larsen said.

“Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be nice days with sun in most places,” he added.

Daytime temperatures will be between 5-9°C.

Last month was the warmest and wettest February since DMI began taking records in 1874.

The second month of 2020 was 1.5 degrees Celsius warmer and 12 millimetres of rain wetter than levels considered normal weather for February in Denmark.

Norway to get a taste of summer with 20C days this week

Summer is finally here! Or least it is if you live in southern Norway, where a warm front coming up from Europe will bring t-shirt temperatures of 20C by Thursday, according to forecasts.

Norway to get a taste of summer with 20C days this week

Warm air from southern Europe will combine with a high pressure zone which will bring clear skies and sunshine, with summery weather coming towards the end of the week, Norway’s national weather forecaster Yr has reported.

“Thursday and Friday especially will be nice,” Ingrid Villa, a meteorologist at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, told the public broadcaster NRK. “Then we will probably get temperatures of over 20 degrees Celsius in some places.”

Patches of 20C warmth are expected both in western Norway around Bergen and in Western Norway around Oslo, with the area around Tromsø expected to have slightly cooler weather, although Villa said that “it will absolutely be something like summer there too”.

The warm sunny weather is, however, expected to pass northern Norway by, with grey overcast skies expected for much of this week.

But if you think summer has come to Norway to stay, you risk disappointment as much cooler temperatures are expected next week.

“There’s nothing unusual in getting an early taste of summer in April and the start of May, and then we can quickly go back to cooler more spring-like weather,” Villa said.
