Even before the final whistle rang out in Moscow, crowds had packed the Champs Elysees in central Paris in a repeat of the scenes of 20 years ago when more than one million people partied there into the early hours after France won the World Cup.
The famous avenue in the wealthy west of Paris is the traditional spot where the French go to celebrate their teams' triumphs and on Sunday evening hundreds of thousands of fans packed the luxury shopping street for what was one big street party.
Flares were lit, people jumped and danced and sung songs to celebrate France winning its second World Cup.
