The 29-year-old male, who reports in German media say suffered from “psychological issues,” drove at considerable speed across a pedestrian area on the beach promenade in the resort town of Scharbeutz on the Baltic Sea in northern Germany on Thursday morning.
Pedestrians were forced to jump out of the way and luckily there were no serious injuries, reports northern German local daily Lübecker Nachrichten.
Police sources told German media there was no indication of terrorism.
The man was stopped by a bollard next to a beachside hotel, reports German news portal Stern. He then apparently fled, covered in blood through an Italian restaurant, while threatening passers-by. He also assaulted an officer before being apprehended, add reports.
The attack took place in full daylight at around 9.50am, reports Lübecker Nachrichten.
