Rakhmat Akilov was last week found guilty of terrorist crimes for carrying out the April 2017 Stockholm terror attack, killing five and injuring 10 more. The Uzbek national was jailed for life, and will not launch an appeal.
Legal representatives of the 138 plaintiffs had asked for a total of 20.6 million kronor in compensation, but in the end the court settled on around 13.9 million. The relatives of the five victims killed were not granted the 150,000 kronor infringement compensation they had demanded, and instead received a standardized compensation of 60,000 kronor each.

The father of the young girl who was killed by Akilov in the attack called the compensation they were awarded “an insult” and will now appeal for 150,000 kronor in damages as well as a further 150,000 kronor for infringement.
The family’s lawyer Thomas Bodström says that Stockholm District Court did not take “any consideration whatsoever for what should have been done”.
“Above all it's about the little girl's young age, and we’ve seen court after court take that into account and award a higher amount. But that hasn’t happened this time, and rather, the district court has settled on the absolute lowest amount which is simply wrong,” Bodström told Swedish broadcaster TV4.
With Akilov’s legal representative announcing on Monday that he will not appeal the life sentence, the young victim’s father will have to cover the legal costs for their appeal.
