An Italian teen model made toilet paper out of social media abuse

Nineteen-year-old Italian fashion blogger Chiara Nasti has come up with a creative way to show 'haters' what she thinks of their comments.

She printed the abusive messages she had received onto toilet paper.

Nasti, who has over one million followers on her Instagram account @nastilove, shared a photo on her social media networks, saying “Clean yourself with decency”.

Some of the messages had criticized her for wearing revealing outfits in her photos, with one saying: “Am I the only one who thinks every photo of Chiara Nasti is vulgar? Even wearing high fashion clothes, she has no elegance.” Another called her an “ignorant cretin” and one said she dressed “like shit”.

The issue of online abuse has been hotly debated in Italy in recent months. The government gave the go-ahead to a 'cyber-bullying law' in September, following several cases of teenagers killing themselves following online mockery.

And last month Laura Boldrini, the President of Italy's Chamber of Deputies, wrote an open letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg telling him there was “too much hate” on the site and asking him to take action.

Boldrini has previously published some of the sexist insults and graphic death and rape threats she has received over Facebook, including commenters' full names. The politician and former journalist said she wanted to “draw attention to an increasingly frequent and unacceptable phenomenon: the use of social media for violent and threatening messages.”
