According to a report in the Austrian news daily Oesterreich, the ailing pop star, who died on Christmas day, had flown secretly to Vienna in November, with his long-time boyfriend and partner Fadi Fawaz (43), as well as the latter's father.
Michael had previously visited Vienna in 2011, where he became seriously ill with pneumonia prior to a planned concert in the city, and where he spent three weeks in Vienna's General Hospital (AKH), which saved his life.
The star recommended the team at the AKH to his lover's father, and the three of them flew with a private jet from London, and accompanied the elder Fawaz during a consultation for a private medical issue in the hospital.
The paper further reported that Michael had become unrecognizable after considerable weight gain, weighing up to 100kg.
“George Michael was definitely in Vienna a few days before the Justin Bieber concert (around 8 November). It was about a doctor's appointment for a close relative of his lover,” claimed an unnamed industry insider.
According to reports in British newspapers, Michael had been struggling with addictions to both crack and heroin. The star had also battled with severe depression for many years.
