According to Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, over 100 quakes of at least a 2.0 magnitude were felt during the night, particularly in the Marche region.
The epicentre of the strongest, which took place at 1:35am, was between the towns of Pieve Torina, Fiordimonte and Pievebovigliana in Macerata.
Another significant quake, of a 3.2 magnitude, was recorded at 3:38am with an epicentre in Ussita, one of the towns worst hit by Sunday's 6.6 quake.
More than 20,000 people have been made temporarily homeless by the recent quakes as firefighters continue checks to see if buildings are safe to be inhabited.
According to the local department of the Civil Protection Agency, there were no reported collapses or emergency situations as a result of the latest tremors.
