The two men, named as Abdullah B. (37) and Wahidulla Q. (30), were walking near the river in Andorf on Saturday afternoon when they heard shouts for help. They ran down to the water and saw a man who was struggling to stay afloat. The two men jumped in and were able to pull him to the bank. They then called for help.
Police said that they probably saved the 64-year-old’s life. The pensioner had injured his head when he fell and it was bleeding heavily. Police think that he had slipped whilst he was walking and fell into the water, hitting his head on a large rock. The man was given first aid at the scene and is now being treated in hospital.
A similar accident happened in the city of Salzburg over the weekend. A retired woman fell into the Glanbach river and a German man heard for cries for help and came to her rescue, holding onto her arm until the police and an ambulance arrived and were able to pull her out of the water.
