A cable fire in a tunnel between Slussen and Mariatorget in Södermalm, Stockholm, brought trains on the red line to a complete standstill between Zinkensdamm and Karlaplan on Thursday morning.

“We know that there is a fire in the tunnel. We're on our way, but we don't know more at the moment,” fire and rescue control room officer Linda Ulfves told the TT newswire early in the morning.

By 7.20am the fire had been put out and trains had slowly begun running again between Zinkensdamm and Östermalm torg in both directions, but replacement buses also operated in the morning.

The green line was running as normal, but did not stop at Slussen “because of the smoke”, said SL spokesperson Henrik Palmér.
