A sample of the product called “dm Bio Sesam” tested positive for salmonella, DM said on Thursday evening.

Alnatura said that its own sesame products, as well as a seed mix item, were also found to have salmonella, the natural food company said on Friday.

The stores are now asking customers to return the affected products to any DM or Alnatura store to receive a refund. Only products coming from Uganda were affected, and customers can find this information labelled on the side of the packaging.

“The quality and safety of our products is a top priority for us,” DM wrote in an advisory to customers. “We regret the incident and apologize to all our customers for the resulting inconvenience.”

Salmonella is a major cause of food sickness worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. Symptoms of a salmonella infection include fever, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting.
