There are around 1,400 hospitals in France, but none are better than the University Hospital of Bordeaux.

This is according to an unofficial annual ranking by Le Point newspaper that looked into specialist treatments and surgeries.

The annual study ranks the country's hospitals for an overall look at how well they perform, with this year's findings praising Bordeaux for the “daily quality” of its medical staff.

The Bordeaux hospital has been given top spot twice in the past, most recently in 2005.

Second place went to CHU Lille, followed by CHU Toulouse. Fourth went to Strasbourg University Hospitals and fifth to the Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris.

The rest of the top ten went to Nantes University Hospital, Grenoble University Hospital, University Hospital Montpellier, Rouen, and Rennes.

Bosses at Bordeaux welcomed the news, sending out a “bravo” tweet to its staff.
