A group of actors dressed as air hostesses and stewards descended upon Metros and RERs in Paris on Monday in a bid to raise awareness about public transport safety.

The hostesses held talks similar to airplane safety demonstrations to show passengers how dangerous daily accidents on public transport can be, but also how easy it is to prevent them.

Commuters were also handed out safety information cards by the hostesses and stewards, similar to those found in the seat pockets of an airplane.

According to RATP and publicity group Havas Paris, who are behind the campaign, one serious accident happens on public transport every day simply due to passengers not paying enough attention.

In 2015, a total of 274 cases of people falling between the train and the platform were recorded.

According to RATP, some of the most common examples of behaviour that has caused accidents in the past: children riding scooters on the platforms, parents blocking carriage doors with their prams, and people walking whilst looking at their phone screens.
