Prince William's visit caused quite a stir as hundreds of Düsseldorfers stood in the “blazing heat” for more than two hours to get a glimpse of the Duke of Cambridge on Tuesday, the Rheinische Post reported.

His Royal Highness was in town to celebrate 70 years since the British military founded the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on August 23rd 1946 while Allied forces occupied Germany after the Second World War.

During his visit, William schmoozed with British soldiers, state Minister President Hannelore Kraft and got chummy with Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He even got to weigh in on the ongoing Brexit discussions, saying in a speech that “this partnership will continue despite Britain's recent decision to leave the European Union. The depth of our friendship with Germany and with North Rhine-Westphalia will not change.”
